VEEP at HES
An educator from the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) visited HES to teach us how we can make a positive difference. This organization helps students and teachers in Vermont and New Hampshire learn about energy and climate change. VEEP's goal is to inspire people to take action to make their communities, economy, and environment more sustainable. We learned that small changes can have a positive impact!

Cornucopia Cooking Club
HES is in week two of a six week after school cooking program with the Cornucopia Project. The After-School Cooking Club is a fun, hands-on program designed for elementary school students who want to learn the basics of cooking and develop their culinary skills. Held once a week, the club provides a safe and enjoyable environment for our students to experiment in the kitchen, try new recipes, and gain confidence in their ability to create delicious meals. Taste testing was their favorite part!

Clay Sculptures
This week our HES artists focused on form and texture in their sculptures and depth through overlapping in their collages. They worked with clay, paint, repurposed paintings, and glue. I look forward to continuing with our HES artists when I return for the week of February 17th. Thank you for supporting creativity!Justin Melle
Slope Days - Week 1
HES students braved the cold for their first day of skiing and snowboarding at Crotched Mountain. There was some debate about the weather, but they decided to bundle up and hit the slopes! Even though it was chillier than they'd have liked, it was a huge success. And who doesn't like warming up in the lodge with some good 'mountain food'?
Festival of Trees Winner
Students in kindergarten, first, and second grade read books by Mo Willems, which they used as their inspiration to create a Mo Willems tree for Antrim's Festival of Trees. The festival is held every December at the James A. Tuttle Library. Trees are on display for the month of December, and visitors are encouraged to view and judge the trees based on a variety of criteria. When the festival ended and all of the votes were tallied, the community voted Hancock Elementary's Mo Willems tree the WINNER for Best Kids Creation and Best Overall Favorite! Way to go, Huskies!
Our students will have the confidence to be positive participants in their community, by showing kindness, curiosity, and respect to themselves and others.
At Hancock Elementary, our mission is to empower students to become confident, compassionate, and engaged members of their community. We are dedicated to fostering an educational environment where kindness, curiosity, and respect are at the core of every student's experience. We inspire our students to develop the skills, values, and mindset needed to positively impact both themselves and the world around them.
